Try These Troubleshooting Tips If Your Heat Pump Is Not Working Properly < Return

heat pump troubleshooting tips Tampa Bay areaSince heat pumps are ideally suited for moderate climates, they are the most frequent choice for residential heating and cooling in the Tampa Bay area. Heat pumps are efficient and economical, but they also require a certain amount of regular preventive maintenance in order to function properly. Some procedures, such as cleaning or changing filters, can be fairly easily handled by homeowners. If something goes wrong with the system, some basic heat pump troubleshooting steps can help pin down the problem and perhaps get things going again.

If your system won't run at all, the first thing to check is the power supply.  Most heat pumps have an on/off switch either in or next to the outdoor unit. This switch may have been inadvertently turned off when the system was last cleaned. There may also be a power switch on or near the indoor unit. Finally, the electrical panel for your home should have a circuit dedicated to the heat pump, and it may have been tripped.

If all power switches are on and you've made sure the thermostat is properly set, you can try to reset the system by activating the reset switch. If your thermostat is battery operated, the problem may simply be a need to install fresh batteries. If your unit is running but isn't supplying a sufficient flow of air, you may need to clean or replace your air filters.  Anything that restricts airflow should be addressed, including cleaning any debris that may have collected in or around the outside unit.

If these heat pump troubleshooting tips don't solve your problem, it's probably a good idea to call in an expert. In the Tampa Bay area, the experts at Simpson Air are well-regarded for their quality customer service and expert advice. In Tampa, they're known as "the coolest guys in town."
