Simpson Donates AC Systems to Help School Kids Stay Cool

Leaking systems.  Rusting equipment.  High electricity bills.  All were problems with the HVAC units at Cambridge Christian School in Tampa.  And all was solved thanks to an ongoing donation by Paige and Garry Simpson of Simpson Mechanical.

In late 2003, the Simpsons began noticing the deteriorating HVAC units around the school their two children attended.  Upon further inspection, Garry Simpson, a 30+ year air expert, found more issues, such as duct leaks, system malfunctions and wiring issues, that needed quick resolution.  Since most of the units were 17 to 20 years old, he recommended that new systems be installed rather than trying to fix antiquated units.

With school resources stretched, Simpson stepped up and, over the past four years, donated more than $154,267 worth of central air conditioning products, repairs, services and cash donations to the school.  As a result of the new energy efficient systems, the school recorded a savings of$12,000 in 2007 compared to 2006.

“Within the first three months of service,” states Rick Shears, director of Service Operations for Cambridge, “our electrical survey showed that we saved 72 kW in the three buildings using the new Carrier systems.  Since then, the savings have continued and will continue to do so because of the generosity of Simpson Mechanical.

“These new A/Cs will not only increase our ‘comfort zone,’ but will do the work much more efficiently. The A/Cs are not only a “one-time” gift to the school but will “keep on” giving by reflecting in reduced, future electric bills.”

The donation includes several 4-ton Puron condensers and air handlers, programmable thermostats, reconfigured ducts for better air flow, new grills and diffusers to minimize hot spots and new wiring to handle low and high voltage.

“The school is a big part of our community and a place that is very important for the growth of our children,” states Mr. Simpson.  “We wanted to help their environment and for the children to come over the next decade.  So providing our resources to help them was an easy decision.  We’re happy to assist.”

Created in 1999, Simpson Mechanical is a Carrier certified factory authorized dealer and is renowned for its problem solving, customer care and service programs.  In April 2008, Simpson introduced Simpson Air, its branded residential division.
